July 29, 2021: Start of Fall Term
Dear Deans and Department Chairs,
We are two weeks away from the beginning of the Fall 2021 term. While we are excited about the start of a new academic year and welcoming our students back to campus, we will continue to keep a close eye on the pandemic and monitor the CDC, GDPH, and the USG for any updates.
I’m sure most faculty have done this already, but if they haven’t, they should activate their Folio accounts immediately. Folio is our platform for continuity of instruction, attendance verification, and communicating important information. Not just in terms of the pandemic, but we have already had one tropical storm this summer, and this could be an active hurricane season. Folio allows us the greatest flexibility to toggle in any direction should the need arise.
As we enter the Fall 2021 term, we want to continue encouraging and promoting healthy, safe, and welcoming campuses. We know that 2021 has already asked much in terms of flexibility and adjustment, but our work with students has shown the power of Georgia Southern University’s commitment to quality education and equity. We ask that faculty be more intentional than usual in their communications with students about classroom expectations and continuity of instruction.
More information about policies and procedures for the Fall term are coming. Please have faculty monitor their email for additional updates.
Sincerely,
Carl L. Reiber
Provost & Vice President Academic Affairs
