SUBJECT: Returning to Campus: Important Updates and Support

Dear Faculty,

I have been truly humbled by the way our community has come together over the past week. While many of us are at different stages of repair and recovery, it has been incredibly heartening to witness the support we continue to show one another and our students. Thank you for being there for each other and for remaining steadfast in your dedication to our university.

As we prepare to reopen on Monday, we recognize that some challenges and uncertainties still lie ahead. Many of our students are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, with some still without power or water, and others grieving the loss of loved ones. I encourage each of you to be flexible and compassionate as we welcome them back to campus. Your understanding and support during this time will make a world of difference as they work to regain their footing.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available, and we remain committed to supporting you and our students throughout this transition. That said, here are the adjusted schedules for Minimester I and II.

Minimester I Class Schedule and Exam Adjustments:

  • October 7-9 will serve as make-up days for missed classes from September 30 and October 1-2.
  • Exams, originally scheduled for October 4-5 and 7-8, will now take place on October 10-11 & October 14-15.
  • Faculty are encouraged to consider alternative assignments in place of exams where possible to ease this transition.

Minimester II Schedule:

Minimester II will begin as planned on October 10

As we continue to navigate this return, please update your course materials and schedules on Folio as soon as possible to ensure students are informed and can plan accordingly. This will help alleviate confusion and provide them with the structure they need to successfully resume their coursework. I encourage you to remain flexible with deadlines and assignments where appropriate, as many students are still facing significant challenges.

Lastly, we are still awaiting a response from our petition to the University System of Georgia (USG) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) regarding potential adjustments to the end-of-term schedule. I want to assure you that I am committed to ensuring there will be no classes held during Thanksgiving break and that we will not extend the fall term beyond our scheduled exam dates. We will keep you updated on any decisions that may impact the remainder of the semester.

Thank you again for your unwavering support, resilience, and commitment to our students during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Carl
