The Human Performance Optimization (HPO) Conference brings together practitioners, experts, and professionals from various medical and military backgrounds to share their knowledge of the systematic and strategic efforts to enhance the capabilities, well-being, and overall effectiveness of individuals. With a focus on service members and the providers who work with them, this conference offers a unique opportunity to gain insights, exchange ideas, and enhance skills in the dynamic field of military healthcare.

The Human Performance Conference (HPO) will offer educational sessions for both the individual service members and the providers who work with them. Conference sessions are focused on improving physical and mental readiness for service members and will have lecture and lab-based offerings.


We are excited to announce #GSHPO24 will be held in person at the Student Union Ballroom at Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus in Savannah, Georgia.

Major General Windsor S. “Shane” Buzza

Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Forces Command


Major General Shane Buzza assumed responsibility as the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Forces Command on 1 Oct. Prior to his arrival to Fort Liberty, he served as the Wartime Chief of Staff for Eighth Army, Camp Humphreys, Republic of South Korea.

Major General Buzza’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Armed
Forces Expeditionary Medal and Parachutist Badge.
MG Buzza and his wife have two adult sons.

Saturday Keynote Speaker

Colonel Kevin Bigelman, USA, Retired

Deputy Director, H2F


Colonel Kevin A. Bigelman, USA, retired, is a 1993 graduate of the United States Military Academy and was commissioned in the Field Artillery.

His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Joint Firepower
Control Course, Light Fire Support Officer’s Course, Jumpmaster Course, Ranger School, Air Assault School, Mountain Warfare School, and the US Army Command and General Staff College.

He retired after 30 years of service on 1 JUNE 2023. Currently, he serves as the Deputy Director, H2F at Joint Base Langley Eustis, VA.
