Mid-Semester Student Feedback
End-of-course evaluations provide valuable insight into how students experienced your course, but they come too late for you to make any changes based on that feedback. Mid-semester student feedback is a type of formative assessment that allows you to make teaching adjustments based on students’ comments about how well they are learning in your course.
Soliciting student feedback communicates that you care about the quality of your teaching and about your students’ learning. Studies indicate that mid-semester student feedback has the potential to yield higher end-of-course evaluations.
Scheduling
Student feedback sessions can be scheduled between Weeks 5 and 10 of the semester. We conduct student feedback sessions for traditional, blended, and online courses. Insights yielded from student feedback are most useful when paired with a teaching observation. Pairing a student feedback session with an observation provides a more comprehensive view of your course and helps us offer more-informed suggestions.
Anonymity
Student responses on mid-semester feedback are anonymous. The report generated from that feedback is confidential between you and your consultant. However, many instructors choose to include these reports in tenure and promotion or annual review portfolios as evidence of dedication to continuous improvement of their teaching.
