About
Transitioning to college is exciting…and sometimes a little intimidating. Whether you are a first-time freshman, transfer, non-traditional, or returning student we are excited that you have chosen to continue your education at Georgia Southern University. We recognize that students come with a variety of experiences and expectations, and our goal is to help you be successful throughout the various stages of your academic journey.
OFFICE OF FIRST AND SECOND YEAR EXPERIENCE
The Office of First and Second Year Experience (FYSY) provides new students with the academic and social resources needed to successfully transition to college life and progress towards degree completion. FYSY oversees the development, instruction, and assessment of two first-year courses: FYE 1220 which is essential for introducing Georgia Southern students to the academic rigor and excellence expected in higher education, bridging gaps between their prior experiences and college demands; and CORE 2000, which deepens engagement with general education, career readiness, and global workforce skills, these courses offer a holistic first-year experience. Connecting these first year courses with the award-winning Eagle Experience’s co-curricular engagement and programming provides a truly comprehensive first year experience fostering student success and sense of belonging.
