Rare and Endangered Plants
In addition to the Endangered Plant Area, the Garden’s collection of rare and endangered plant species extends throughout the Garden.
The Garden is a steward of many important plants requiring protection.
Georgia Plume (Elliottia racemosa) – Listed as threatened in Georgia and officially listed as a threatened species. It gets its name from the beautiful plume-like spikes of fragrant white flowers that appear in early summer.
Florida Torreya (Torreya taxifolia) – An endangered subcanopy tree of the yew family, Taxaceae. T. taxifolia has lost at least 98.5% of its total population size since the early 1900s, causing that this species be federally listed as endangered.
