We must intensify our ability to attract and retain students so more can benefit from the transformational impact of a Georgia Southern education. In recent years, the University has set institutional records for four- and six-year graduation rates and freshman to sophomore retention; yet to continue this climb we must increase access for students to come to Georgia Southern and to complete their degree here through financial assistance. Gifts to support Georgia Southern students are an investment in our shared future and in the communities where our graduates will lead and live.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“Georgia Southern helped spearhead my success by creating opportunities for me like working at the student-run radio station through the First Year Experience program, which then opened the door for me to work at a radio station abroad. At each step during college, grad school and in work, I applied what I learned to the next thing I did. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most important things about study abroad is that you are not just learning academically, you are trying to be a better person. Seeing how other people live makes you approach things differently and understand what is possible in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among Jarvis Steele\u2019s many accomplishments as a member of the Georgia Southern Honors College was his interning for Senator Johnny Isakson and participating in an ongoing transatlantic research project entitled the Wexford-Savannah Axis. After graduating from the University of Georgia Law School, he returned to Georgia Southern as Assistant University Counsel and Title IX Investigator.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe scholarship allows me to be one step closer to fulfilling my dream. As a non-traditional student and mother of two children with special needs, I understand the importance of high-quality education and the community impact it has. Despite being an older student, my professors have always encouraged me to continue with my education so that I can leave a lasting footprint in the education field and in my community as a Special Education Advocate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing that I have been afforded this opportunity gives me a chance to breathe a little easier and maintain my academic focus without worrying as much for providing for children’s medical needs. \u201cWhen I first visited Georgia Southern to interview for scholarships, I completely fell in love with the campus. Even though I was miles away from my family in Honduras, I felt like I was home. Receiving this scholarship is going to have a significant impact on my education and on my family. During COVID-19, my mother had to stop working. For this reason, receiving this scholarship is going to help cover tuition, books, rent, and other daily expenses, relieving my mother’s financial burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am currently on the path to complete my CPA, finish my master\u2019s program, and start my career in public accounting with Deloitte in Washington D.C. I am hoping to become a partner one day. None of this would have been possible without the continuous and unconditional support that I have received from faculty. They truly care for their students and have created the most significant impact on my career and personal growth.
