Countdown to OMI 2024Operation Move-In Date Update – Tropical Storm Debby
We look forward to welcoming you to campus on Friday, August 9 and wanted to send a few move-in reminders as you make your final preparations. Move-in is a very exciting time for our students and their supporters, so we encourage you to read this update in entirety to promote a positive move-in experience.
Statesboro Campus:
Please remember that your move-in process for Friday will begin at the RAC – Recreation Activity Center. The address to enter into your GPS is: 2687 Bunny Akins Blvd, Statesboro, GA 30458. You will need to enter Akins Blvd via Veterans Memorial Parkway/301 Bypass. Please do not attempt to access the Recreation Activity Center via other roads on campus, as many will be closed to assist with the flow of traffic. Students should plan to arrive at the RAC during the move-in time slot appointment selected in the housing portal. Didn’t make a move-in appointment yet? Head to our Operation Move In page for more information.
Armstrong Campus in Savannah:
Please remember that your move-in process for Friday will begin at the Armstrong Center. The address to enter into your GPS is: 13040 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31419. Students should plan to arrive at the Armstrong Center during the move-in time slot appointment selected in the housing portal. Didn’t make a move-in appointment yet? Head to our Operation Move In page for more information.
Both Campuses: Moving in on Saturday or Sunday? Students who arrive after 4:00pm on Friday and throughout the weekend will proceed directly to their residence hall clubhouse to check in.
Many areas of Georgia have been impacted by Tropical Storm Debby, including Statesboro, Savannah and the surrounding areas. If your move in plans need to change due to recent weather events, we understand. We ask those who are still planning to come at their scheduled time to arrive within your designated check-in window. If you need to come later than your assigned time, please proceed directly to the appropriate check-in location:
For Statesboro Campus:
Friday, August 9 – 8:30am-4:00pm – Recreation Activity Center
Friday, August 9 at 4:00pm – Tuesday, August 13 – Proceed Directly to Your Assigned Residence Hall
For Savannah:
Friday, August 9 – 8:30am-4:00pm – Armstrong Center
Friday, August 9 at 4:00pm – Tuesday, August 13 – Windward Commons Front Desk
If you plan to arrive after Tuesday, August 13, please email us at housing@georgiasouthern.edu with your anticipated arrival date.
Due to the local impact of Tropical Storm Debby, we may see a reduction in the number of volunteers available to assist with move-in on Friday, August 9. Please be patient and we will assist you as soon as we are able. We will have a limited number of moving bins available for use as well.
August in South Georgia is typically hot, humid, and prone to rain. To best prepare for move-in, we encourage students to dress comfortably, drink water, leave all pets at home, and limit the number of guests you bring with you. We encourage you to invite your family back to visit you during Family Weekend.
Additionally, due to potential rain and humidity, we encourage students not to pack in cardboard boxes. Wet cardboard boxes can become difficult to handle and items inside could get wet. Instead, pack in storage bins you can reuse as storage in your room during the year. There will be dumpsters near the residence halls for student use. Please remember to take your trash to the dumpsters and do not pile things up in the hallways, lobby, or outside the building.
As you make final preparations, please make sure you review our What To Bring list, as this will outline items we recommend students have, as well as some items that are not permitted in the residence halls.
Safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
