Outreach and Events

The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art takes pride in giving back to the local community and offering events and services to provide students with valuable workforce experience. Students and faculty are given the opportunity to showcase their artwork and to be inspired by professional, contemporary works through gallery programming and visiting artists/lectures.

The Department has also partnered with the Averitt Center for the Arts in Statesboro to provide students with opportunities to showcase their work in the community. Together we host student exhibitions and present the biannual All Fired Up Exhibition & Sale at the Roxie Remley Center for Fine Arts.

Trust us, there’s never a dull moment in the BFSDoArt!

Sculpture Walk

Sculpture Walk

Sculpture Walk 2022

LOCATION/DATES: TBD, 2024

The Sculpture Walk is an outdoor art exhibition and online silent auction that features a collection of vibrant steel sculptures designed by students in Casey Schachner’s 3D Art & Design Foundations courses.

Students are challenged to use a two-dimensional square to create a three-dimensional object. This is achieved by cutting the square into multiple facets that cannot be removed but instead folded and shaped in multiple directions creating a “sculpture in the round.”

Work is juried by members of the community and the selected work is then fabricated into steel sculptures. The sculptures are powder-coated to help preserve them for years of enjoyment.

The community is invited to place a bid on a favorite piece through a virtual auction, which runs the length of the exhibition. Proceeds from the auction go to the Betty Foy Sanders Art Student Travel Fund. This fund helps BFSDoArt students travel for various types of educational experiences including class field trips, art study abroad programs, professional conferences, and more.
