College and Convicts Corrections Committee
As part of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology’s Inside Out class, Dr. Andrea Corradi held class with 14 Georgia Southern students inside a correctional facility along with 15 incarcerated students. During the course of the class, the students became aware of Georgia’s new Senate committee focused on addressing prison violence and correctional staffing issues, the Senate Supporting Safety and Welfare of All Individuals in Department of Corrections Facilities Study Committee.
To help inform this committee, the class formed the “College and Convicts Corrections Committee” to draft recommendations that we believe would help combat violence and alleviate staffing concerns from the unique perspective of incarcerated individuals and those who one day hope to work in the criminal justice system. This report provides important context to the issues of violence and staffing and suggests necessary reforms. This report has been provided to all senators on the committee.
If you would be interested in discussing this report with the committee, please contact Dr. Andrea Corradi at acorradi@georgiasouthern.edu.
We at the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (CBSS) at Georgia Southern are proud to present the research from our Criminal Justice and Criminology Inside Out students. This impactful course was paused during the pandemic but is now back in full swing!
