Field Trip to Underwater Archaeology Field Station
Armstrong students taking the class “Archaeology of the Southeast” visited the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Coastal Georgia Underwater Archaeology Field Station this week. The office of the State Deputy Archaeologist is located here rather than in the Historic Preservation Division’s Archaeological Services Unit in Atlanta. Huge thanks to Chris McCabe, the Deputy Archaeologist, who was our host and guide.

Ruins of the Roebling House from the plantation located on Skidaway Island before the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography.

Students learn about collecting and processing data via remote sensing tools such as magnetometers and sonar arrays.
