Kathryn Haughney, Ph.D.
Kathryn Haughney, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Elementary and Special Education, co-authored an article that appeared earlier this year in TEACHING Exceptional Children. The article, titled “Response Prompting as an ABA-Based Instructional Approach for Teaching Students with Disabilities,” explains the components and use response-prompting instruction and how to efficiently implement this form of instruction in special needs classrooms.
Haughney also published “Effects of Functional Communication Training Using GoTalk Now™ iPad Application on Challenging Behavior of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder,” in the Journal of Special Education Technology in June. This article details a study investigating the effects of a functional communication training intervention consisting of systematic prompting and natural reinforcement on the challenging behaviors of two children with autism spectrum disorder aged five and six years old.
