Dr. Hau-Jian “Jason” Liu

My research group is currently interested in the topic of magnetization dynamics. Specifically, we investigate magnetic excitations, known as spin waves, in nanostructures. Nanostructures provide a means of controlling the characteristics of the spin waves, like amplitude, frequency, and wavelength. Our research will lead to a better understanding of the fundamental physics of spin waves and how they can be used in future spin-based electronics.

Projects that we are currently working on include spin wave interference, magnonic crystals, and nonlinear spin waves processes. In addition to these projects, we are also developing a highly sensitive measurement technique that uses defects in diamonds. Although our expertise is mainly focused on experimental investigations, we have recently incorporated micromagnetic simulations as a tool to further explore spin dynamics.
