Academic Technology Standards
This list provides a comprehensive overview of the technology tools and products that are supported by the Learning Technology Support department.
Learning Management System
Folio
The Folio system is the campus standard for online courses. Folio is the Georgia Southern branded name used to primarily refer to Desire2Learn (D2L), but also to those products that integrate closely with D2L, such as Turnitin, Respondus, Zoom, and YuJa.
In addition to standard course management, other features include communication, collaboration, web conferencing, video recording, surveying, originality checking, and many more. Visit the Folio site to learn more about its features.
Turnitin
Turnitin is plagiarism detection software that is integrated with Folio. Turnitin is available to instructors within the Dropbox tool of their Folio course. In addition, students can access Turnitin to submit work via the Folio Student Training Course.
Respondus
Respondus is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Folio.
Email / Calendar / Document Storage
GoogleApps
GoogleApps provides Gmail, Calendar, and Docs/Drive for all campus personnel. Enterprise features and nearly unlimited storage make it usable in any situation. Mobile access ensures access wherever you are.

Zoom
Zoom is an online web conferencing / meeting service that can be used for conferences requiring audio, video, screen-sharing and conference phone capabilities. [View Product Page]
Committee Collaboration Sites
Sharepoint
Sharepoint is a web-based collaboration tool that allows users to share files, track projects, and communicate with one another. Standard features include task lists, document libraries, calendars, and discussion boards though more advanced options are available.
Polling
iClicker
iClicker is a technology solution that allows presenters and audience participants to dynamically interact through questions and answers in real-time. Instructors utilize this tool to gather instantaneous feedback from students and it can be used to assess pre- and post-lesson knowledge, provide a springboard for class discussion and collect attendance information.
Blogs
Google Blogger
Google Blogger is a free weblog publishing tool from Google. Use it to share text, photos and video.
Narrated Presentations (MS PowerPoint)
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is the standard for creating narrated presentations. Instructors should utilize PowerPoint to create a presentation, add narration and save as a Windows Media Video (.wmv) file. The file can then be uploaded to YuJa inside of Folio. [View Product Page]
Lecture Capture / Video Recording and Streaming
My Media – YuJa Integration (Folio)
The YuJa integration allows you to easily record video to include in your folio course. Have media already created? Upload it using YuJa to include in your courses in just a few clicks. [View Product Page]
Website Creation and Building
Departmental Web Sites – WordPress
WordPress is the content management system utilized by Georgia Southern University for all public-facing websites. It allows for easy page editing with rich text formatting options.
Personal Web Sites – Google Sites
Google Sites allows you to easily create a website without any coding knowledge. It is included as part of the GoogleApps services. It is also the campus standard if you would like to build your own personal faculty/staff webpage.[View Product Page]
Survey / Data Collection Tools
Qualtrics
Qualtrics is a web-based tool for building and distributing surveys. Qualtrics also has powerful reporting tools for analyzing the data you receive. [View Product Page]
Google Docs/Drive
GoogleApps provides a simply survey tool to quickly and easily collect data. [View Product Page]
Statistical Analysis
SPSS
Site-licensed for faculty use, SPSS provides advanced statistical analysis and industry-standard features. If you would like to obtain the Suite, contact your college Technical Services Representative by calling 912-478-5429.
Microsoft Excel
Part of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), it provides out-of-the-box analysis and data management tools. It is standard on all PC computers on campus.
Mathematica
Mathematica a mathematics and statistical package free for use by all Georgia Southern faculty and students. Request access directly from Wolfram’s site.

RefWorks is a powerful tool for references and citations. You can download it for use by logging into MyGeorgiaSouthern and clicking the “Download Software” link [View Product Page].
