Comedy tour comes to Georgia Southern University

Want to have your funny bone tickled? The Comedy X Tour which features 24 comedians touring 13 colleges, is coming to Georgia Southern University. Three comedians will perform at each of the colleges on the tour.

Spanky, Evan Wecksell and Dave O’Gara will take the stage at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, in the Russell Union Ballroom.

Spanky has worked as a comedian since 1985. He has appeared on A&E’s ‘Good Time CafE,” MTV’s ‘Half Hour Comedy Show,” and HBO’s ‘The Comedy Channel.” In 1989, he competed on the syndicated show ‘Star Search” where he set the record for most appearances by a comedian for the season. The New York Daily News wrote ‘the guy is adept at making people bust a gut.” In 1999 he was named Comedian of the Year and in 2002 Performer of the Year.

Evan Wecksell is a comedian and a singer/songwriter. Because his act combines comedy and music, he has been compared to Adam Sandler. He has appeared on VH1’s ‘I Love the 80s 3D,” ‘I Love the Holidays” and ‘I Love Toys.”

Dave O’Gara is a former Navy man turned comedian. He has worked in stand-up comedy for six years and teaches stand-up at Charlie Goodnight’s in his hometown of Raleigh, N.C. He appeared on the Discovery Channel’s ‘Cash Cab.”

The event is free, but tickets are required and may be picked up in the Office of Student Activities, located in the Russell Union, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5. For more information on the comedians, visit http://www.comedysoapbox.com/comedyxcalendar.cfm.
