Dare to Declare Sept. 27

University students, undecided about their careers, will have a chance to ‘open the doors” to their futures.” That’s the theme behind the upcoming ‘Dare to Declare” conference slated for Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Russell Union.

Freshmen and sophomores are the target audience for the series of interactive programs. They’ll also have a chance to win up to $200. Topics include career assessments, values and skills, and gaining experience.

Programs offered are:

• 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.- Major Decisions (self-directed search) – Room 2080. Students will learn more about their interests, skills and values by taking the Self-Directed Search, a popular career assessment. Results will be interpreted by a professional career advisor.
• Noon to 12:50 p.m. – Major Career Planning – Room 2080. Students will learn to plan their future career by creating a four-year action plan and learning steps to take now to succeed.
• 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. – Values & Skills: Things of Major Importance – Room 2080. Students will identify their personal values and how they relate to career choices.
• 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. – Major Decisions (GCIS Assessment) – First Floor Computer Lab. Students will learn about their interests and skills by taking GCIS, an interactive computerized career assessment program. Results will be interpreted by a professional career advisor. This part of Dare to Declare is limited to the first 28 students who register.
