Legal seminar will address Fair Labor Standards Act
Most students who are studying human resources know that the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulates national standards in overtime and equal pay, minimum wage, child labor and record-keeping.
But do professional personnel managers and other administrators know how the FLSA applies to their own firm’s workforce?
Since the Supreme Court’s re-evaluation of the FLSA in 2004, many bosses are unsure which of their employees should be allowed to earn overtime pay rather than earning an annual salary.
Employers can learn this and other applications of the FLSA by attending Georgia Southern University’s 90-minute training seminar on ‘Recent Developments in the Fair Labor Standards Act” on Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah.
The seminar one of a monthly series from Georgia Southern will be taught by Wade Herring, an attorney from the employment law firm of Hunter, Maclean, Exley and Dunn, P.C. The training lasts from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Georgia Southern is certified as an HRCI Approved Provider, so individuals with (Senior) Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) certification earn 1.5 recertification credit hours for each seminar.
The fee for the seminar is $69 per person. The fee will be reduced to $59 for any person who registers for three or more seminars, or for three or more people from the same firm.
Advance registrations may be made through Georgia Southern’s Continuing Education Center at (912) 681-5551. For more information, visit http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted/lawseminar.html or contact J. Marie Lutz, SPHR, at seminars@georgiasouthern.edu or (912) 871-1763.
