TimeShop for Kids comes to Savannah in 2007
Children ages 8-12 who live in the Savannah area can travel back in time to World War II in the English town of Letchworth by participating in TimeShop: Wartime England. TimeShop is planned for Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 4, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street, in Savannah.
‘The children who take part are evacuated from World War II London, which is being bombed by German planes, to the town of Letchworth,” said Annette Laing, assistant professor of history, who heads the program. ‘On this journey of the imagination they meet the people of Letchworth who, because of the circumstances of the war, are not always friendly, and they experience the lives of evacuees in wartime England.”
For children registered prior to December 15, the discounted cost for TimeShop is $25. The cost after Dec. 15 will be $30, if space is available. Space for the program is limited, and pre-registration is essential.
Thanks to the support of TimeShop sponsors, the program is able to offer scholarships to low-income families living in Bulloch, Bryan, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Screven, and Tattnall Counties.
Registration forms are available online at http://www.timeshopkids.com/ or by calling 912-536-2719.
