Author to give keynote address

The Multicultural Student Center at Georgia Southern University is hosting Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and Questioning (GLBTQ) Awareness Month through Tuesday, Oct. 31.

‘The month serves to promote honesty and openness about being gay, lesbian or bisexual in the workplace, on campus and in interactions with friends and loved ones,” said Consuela Pender, director of the Multicultural Student Center. ‘We are seeking to increase public awareness of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lifestyles.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 24, at noon in Russell Union Room 2044, a Cultural Book Club Discussion will be held. ‘Brotherhood: Gay Life in College Fraternities” will be presented by the editor, Shane L. Windmeyer. The book takes a provocative look at the concepts of brotherhood, masculinity and sexuality in college fraternities. Later that evening at 7 p.m. in the Russell Union Theater, Windmeyer will present the GLBTQ Awareness Month keynote address ‘Out & Greek: Being Gay, Lesbian or Bi-Sexual in College Fraternities.” Windmeyer is one of the foremost educators on sexual orientation issues and Greek life. He is a national leader in gay and lesbian civil rights, as well as a best-selling author.
