Georgia Southern goes French Nov. 2-8

Providing transcultural opportunities for its students is part of Georgia Southern University’s strategic plan, and while not every student can travel outside the United States, they can all take advantage of the wealth of internationally focused opportunities that take place on campus. One such opportunity is the Eighth Annual National French Week, coordinated by Dr. Clara Krug, professor of French, and planned for Nov. 2-8.

• Thursday, Nov. 2

A French menu at the lunchtime buffet in Landrum Cafeteria, including daube de boeuf provencale. Free for students with meal plan, $5 for students without meal plan. Non-student: $7 plus tax.

• Thursday, Nov. 2

A Recital of Traditional Songs and Music from France, Louisiana, and Quebec. Featuring Jean-Paul Carton, professor of French, and Dominique Carton. Nessmith-Lane Center, Room 2911, 4:00 p.m.

• Friday, Nov. 3

French luncheon at the Department of Hospitality, Tourism, and Family and Consumer Sciences’ Food Lab. Cost: $9 including tax. Reservations required: 681-5975.

• Monday, Nov. 6

‘French Catholicism Survives in Spanish Louisiana, 1763-1803.” Dr. James M. Woods, professor of history. Nessmith-Lane Center, Room 2911, 4:00 p.m. Free and open to the public.

• Monday, Nov. 6

‘Lemming” (2005), In French, with English subtitles. Directed by Dominik Moll. This suspenseful thriller evokes Alfred Hitchcock and Luis Buuel.. John Humma Cinema Arts Series. Russell Union Theatre, 7:15 p.m. Admission: $2.

• Tuesday, Nov. 7:

• Tuesday, Nov. 7

‘Regionalism in Western Europe: Breaking or Re-making the Nation State?” An interactive forum with history faculty Robert Batchelor, Charles Briggs, and Charles Crouch. College of Information Technology, Room 1004, 4:00 p.m. This is also a ‘Seven Nations Experience” event. Free and open to the public.

• Tuesday, Nov. 7

Concert featuring University Singers, Women’s Chorus, and the Statesboro-Georgia Southern Community Chorus. Dr. Adam Con, conductor. Carol A. Carter Recital Hall in the Foy Fine Arts Center, 7:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.

• Wednesday, Nov. 8

‘Life Lessons Learned from Haitian Proverbs: Something for Everyone.” Presentation by Dr. Helen Graf, associate professor of Health and Kinesiology. Nessmith-Lane Building, Room 2911, 4:00 p.m. Free and open to the public.
