“Romeo and Juliet” at Performing Arts Center on Jan. 13
Shakespeare’s unmatchable vision of uncompromising true love is coming to the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Georgia Southern University.
The critically acclaimed Aquila Theatre Company will present ‘Romeo and Juliet” at the PAC on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Based in New York City, Aquila utilizes a talented American and British cast to create a stylistic adaptation that focuses on the major themes of the story and brings the text to vivid life.
Tickets for ‘Romeo and Juliet” are $30 plus tax per person for the general public. Georgia Southern faculty, staff and students will receive a 10 percent discount. Groups of 15 or more people from outside the University community are also eligible for a 10 percent discount.
In addition, if any tickets are available 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the performance, any Georgia Southern student with a valid University I.D. can purchase one ticket for $10 plus tax.
The title characters in ‘Romeo and Juliet” are the star-crossed teenaged lovers who follow their passion for each other in a beautiful but ultimately tragic story of eternal love. Set in the vibrant city of Verona, the compelling events that unfold out of the ancient rift between two great Italian families make the play as gripping and dynamic to contemporary audiences as it was when it was written 400 years ago.
The eloquent language in ‘Romeo and Juliet” articulates some of the most
exquisite poetry ever written, while the flamboyant and often complex characters provide some of the most expertly drawn personages in Shakespeare.
Aquila has won international praise for its bold, intelligent and stylish productions of Shakespeare. The company has performed at the White House and enjoyed successful runs in Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, D.C.
The PAC is located on the Georgia Southern campus at the corner of Chandler Road and Plant Drive. The box office is closed for the holidays through Monday, Jan. 8, but tickets can still be purchased online at http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/pac .
The box office will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Starting on that date, the box office will be open every Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. During those hours, the box office will take phone orders for tickets at (912) 486-7999 or toll free (866) PAC-ARTS.
