Georgia Southern president named one of the state’s “power players”

Bruce Grube, president of Georgia Southern University, has been named to the ‘100 Most Influential Georgians” list by Georgia Trend magazine.

The Norcross-based publication released its ninth annual list recently in its January edition, which it notes ‘puts the spotlight on individuals whose influence has been tested over time . . . (and who) are playing major roles in shaping the world we live in, and the way we feel and think.”

Grube was noted for the sharp rise in student talent at Georgia Southern, as measured by the climb in the average SAT scores of incoming freshmen. Prior to his arrival, the average was 987, while today it’s at 1104. The president was also lauded for chairing the University System of Georgia’s team for Improving Retention and Graduation Rates, and for his service on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors.

In addition to various leaders in business, politics, the media, and philanthropy, the presidents of Emory University, the University of Georgia, and the chancellor of the University System of Georgia joined Grube on the list.
