Georgia Southern University will sponsor water festival for Screven County fourth-graders

The Coastal Rivers Water Planning and Policy Center (WPPC) at Georgia Southern University will sponsor the RIPPLE Water Festival on Thursday, May 1, in Sylvania, Ga.

Approximately 230 fourth-grade students from Screven County Elementary School are scheduled to attend the event, which is designed to teach the importance of water conservation and the impact that humans have on this irreplaceable natural resource. The interactive environment will allow the students to learn about the water cycle, surface water, ground water, and pollution.

The RIPPLE Water Festival will be held at the Screven County Recreation Department Gymnasium, which is located at 320 Millen Road. Half of the students will attend the festival from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., and the other half will attend from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Based in the College of Business Administration at Georgia Southern, the Coastal Rivers WPPC provides leadership in the design and implementation of policies affecting the use of water resources in the region defined by the Altamaha, Ogeechee, Satilla, Savannah and St. Mary’s Rivers.
