Georgia Southern University announces Jacksonville, Fla., area scholarship recipients

A talented group of Jacksonville’s 2008 high school graduates has accepted scholarships from Georgia Southern University, one of Georgia’s premier doctoral research institutions, and will begin their college careers at the Statesboro, Ga. campus in August. The group includes graduates of Bartram Trail, Clay, Fleming Island, Allen D. Nease, Providence, Ridgeview, St. John’s County Day, and Yulee high schools.

Two of the students, Jackie Gardner of Bartram Trail High School and Kelsey Ryan of Clay High School, will receive the prestigious 1906 Scholarships. Reserved for the top 20 students in each incoming freshman class, the 1906 Scholarship provides all benefits of the University Honors Program, including a full tuition scholarship with an out-of-state waiver.
Jacksonville-area students receiving academic scholarships include: Cory Exum, St. John’s County Day School; Halle Friedman, Fleming Island High School; Justin Lanier, Allen D. Nease High School; Brittany Lemmon, Providence School; Ron Magwood, Ridgeview High School; Jessica Ragsdale, Fleming Island High School; Josh Ring, Yulee High School; Rachael Stockwell, Bartram Trail High School; and Alexander Wester, St. John’s County Day School.

Each of these students participated in one of Georgia Southern University’s three scholarship events: Southern Scholars Showcase, which takes place at the beginning of December; Scholars’ Day, which take place in late February; and the Leadership Conference, which takes place in early March.
