Georgia Southern University Announces Performing Arts Center Season Schedule

The Georgia Southern Performing Arts Center has announced the performances that will make up its 2009-2010 season, and the list is a diverse blend of talent that includes country music stars, acrobats and a classic American play.

‘We are very excited about the exceptional talent we will be bringing to Statesboro audiences,” said Performing Arts Center director Albert Pertalion. ‘Some of the performers, like Ricky Scaggs, are audience favorites that many people have asked us to bring back. Others will be performing for the first time in the area, giving our audiences the chance to see the kind of acts they would normally have to travel to Atlanta or New York to enjoy.”

Highlights of the season include a performance of the Broadway show STOMP on October 15, 2009 (open to Georgia Southern students only) and October 16, 2009 (tickets available only to season ticket holders and 1906 Members). The Montana Repertory presents the classic play ‘To Kill A Mockingbird” October 31, 2009. Country music legend Ricky Scaggs performs November 20, 2009 and Macon favorite John Berry brings his Christmas show to Statesboro on December 3, 2009. The entire family will enjoy the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats on January 22, 2010 and the Hot 8 Brass Band will bring a taste of New Orleans to the Performing Arts Center on February 13, 2010. Broadway baritone Franc D’Ambrosio, who was the longest running Phantom on Broadway, appears March 26, 2010. And the season will close with a performance by 4 Celtic Women who entertain by singing, dancing, playing Celtic instruments and entertaining their audience with jokes.

Season tickets will be the first to go on sale and will be available beginning June 2, 2009. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Performing Arts Center box office Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 912-478-7999.
