Georgia Southern University Faculty Member Karl Peace, Ph.D. Elected to Leadership Position in American Public Health Association
Karl E. Peace, Ph. D. has been elected chair-elect of the Statistics Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA.) Peace is a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar, Senior Research Scientist and Professor of Biostatistics in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University.
Peace says he plans to use his three-year term with the APHA to make changes that will directly impact the health and well-being of people across the country.
“I ran on the platform of wanting to see the Statistical Section of the APHA become more involved in policy, advancing evidence based practice, and educating non-statisticians on the need for statistical thinking to facilitate better public health decision making,” said Peace. “This could impact what we do in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health where our focus is on the rural and underserved who are in need of better delivery, public health education, outreach, practice and services.”
Peace previously held leadership positions in the Biostatistics Section of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, the Biopharmaceutical Section of the American Statistical Association, and the Drug Information Association. Peace is also the recipient of numerous citations and awards, is the author or editor of nine books, and the author or co-author of 200 articles. His areas of research interest include drug research and clinical development, clinical trial methodology, and applied public health research.
