Georgia Southern University Botanical Garden Celebrating Gardenpalooza
Georgia Southern University Botanical Garden invites the community to explore its new Heritage Pavilion and Farmyard at Gardenpalooza, the Garden’s annual festival of all things autumnal on Saturday, Oct. 24. Admission is free to the festival, which will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Garden, 1505 Bland Avenue in Statesboro.
Gardenpalooza marks the official opening of the Heritage Pavilion, modeled after a former dairy barn, and the Heritage Farmyard, which will feature native trees and many new exhibit gardens. Over 100 trees and shrubs have already been added to the Garden.
A Gardenpalooza tradition is the annual plant sale, featuring plants that thrive in the coastal plain’s special conditions. The Garden hosts the sale to coincide with October and November being the best time to plant trees and shrubs in this area.
Festival activities will include the pumpkin catapult, pumpkin bocce and competitions such as straw bale bicycling, pie eating and the scarecrow relay. A variety of musicians will entertain on the Pavilion main stage, and goats, chickens, a pony and even a tame deer will make guest appearances.
Festival-goers are invited to carve a masterwork pumpkin and take it to the festival for a chance to win $50 top prize. Bark in the ‘Boro will award a gift certificate to the best-dressed dog in the Canine Costume Contest and Parade at noon.
