Georgia Southern University Hosting Halloween Events for Community

Georgia Southern University invites the community to campus for safe, family-friendly Halloween activities, including two popular trick-or-treating events and the return of a Georgia Southern tradition.

Haunted Forest

Fittingly titled ‘Resurrection,” a Georgia Southern tradition makes a spooky return after a six-year hiatus.

The Haunted Forest will provide frights October 26-31, from 8 p.m.-12 midnight at the corner of Forest Drive and Akins Boulevard. A ‘low-scare” version for young children will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Admission is $5, which benefits the Center for Addiction Recovery at Georgia Southern University and the Boys and Girls Club of Bulloch County. The Center for Addiction Recovery is in its second year of operations on the Georgia Southern campus, providing resources and support to students in recovery from addictive disorders.

For more than two decades, the Haunted Forest was put on by students in the Program Planning class taught by Recreation and Leisure Studies professor Mouse Blankenbaker. The proceeds benefited the Honey Bowen Scholarship fund for students majoring in recreation. When Blankenbaker retired in 2003, the Haunted Forest also ceased operations.

Residence Hall-oween

Georgia Southern University and the Department of University Housing are once again proud to provide a safe environment for local children to trick-or-treat, at the annual Hall-oween in Eagle Village from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26.

A carnival will be held in the clubhouse and courtyard of Eagle Village and the youth will be escorted through the building to trick-or-treat with the residents of the hall. Popcorn, snacks and cotton candy will also be provided, and there will be activities such as a haunted house and face painting.

Directions: Parking this year will be in the upper Eagle Village parking lot located on Harvey Drive off of Chandler Road and in the Centennial Place parking lot located on Chandler Road. Turn onto Chandler Road from Fair Road. At the second light, make a right into the Centennial parking lot or make a left onto Harvey Drive and turn left into the Eagle Village parking lot.

Greek Street Trick-or-Treat

Families are invited to bring their children out to Georgia Southern University’s annual Greek Street Trick-or-Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m. Fraternities and sororities will hand out candy and host games and activities up and down Olympic Boulevard.
