The Eighth Regiment Band to Perform at Georgia Southern University

The Georgia Southern University Museum will host an afternoon of Civil War-era music played on period instruments at the Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Nov. 15 beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The Eighth Regiment Band is a group of musicians based in Rome, Ga. who recreate the music of the Civil War by using only original instruments from the 19^th century. Their performance at Georgia Southern will feature both Union and Confederate pieces that were popular during the war. The concert is designed to give the audience a chance to experience, through music, the intense emotions felt by men and women on both sides of the conflict.

Tickets to the concert are available at the Performing Arts Center box office or by calling 912-478-7999. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for museum members, and $5 for students and children.

After the concert, audience members are invited to visit ‘Portraits in Gray: A Civil War Photography Exhibit” at the Georgia Southern museum. This complimentary exhibit includes large reproductions of original portraits of Southern soldiers from David Wynn Vaughan’s nationally acclaimed collection. These sometimes haunting portraits give a unique glimpse into the world of a Civil War soldier. The museum will stay open until 6:00 p.m. the day of the Eighth Regiment Band’s concert to give audience members and the public time to experience both the sights and sounds of the Civil War on the same day.
