Georgia Southern University to Host National Youth-at-Risk Conference

STATESBORO, Ga. – Jan. 22, 2013 – Georgia Southern University will welcome more than a thousand educators, social workers and community leaders from across the United States during the 24^th annual National Youth-At-Risk Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah, Ga., March 3 – 6.

The four day conference hosted by the University’s College of Education and the Division of Continuing Education began in 1989 and has evolved into one of the country’s premiere conferences in helping professionals deal with troubled children. Speakers and workshops will address issues including bullying in schools, overcoming poverty and substance abuse.

The National Youth-At-Risk conference will also honor several schools that have at least 50 percent of their students living at or below the poverty level along with having a diverse student body.  These schools were selected for achieving academic success, community collaboration, citizenship development and democratic education.

Here is the list of 2013 High Flying Schools:

• SAVE High School, Anchorage, Alaska
• Whitehall Elementary School, Anderson, S.C.
• Moore Elementary School, Griffin, Ga.
• Newton High School, Covington, Ga.
• Oak Hill Middle School, Milledgeville, Ga.
