Georgia Southern to Host Town Hall Meeting on Racism
Georgia Southern University will host “Opening Lines: Discussing Racism” during an open forum on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Russell Union Theatre. The event, hosted and mediated by Nathan Palmer of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Breyan Haizlip, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Education in the Department of Leadership, Technology & Human Development, is presented in conjunction with the Multicultural Student Center’s Courageous Conversations series.
“Attendees will have the chance to participate in a frank, honest conversation about racism and how it affects our students, our campus, our state and our country,” explained Palmer. “Expect a lively conversation that will be both intriguing and challenging. Using a town-hall forum structure, everyone will have a chance to have their voice heard and the opportunity to see the world from another’s perspective.”
The 2013 forum is the first of what Palmer anticipates to become an annual event. The forum is free and open to all Georgia Southern students, faculty and staff as well as the general public. For more information, contact Palmer at 912-478-7897 or npalmer@georgiasouthern.edu.
