Georgia Southern Observes Teen Driver Safety Week

Georgia Southern University President Brooks A. Keel, Ph.D., welcomed the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to campus on Thursday for Teen Driver Safety Week.
During a news conference on Sweetheart Circle, President Keel stressed the University wants teen drivers to keep their attention on the road and not talk or text while driving and pointed out that Georgia Southern is committed to keeping students safe and reduce wrecks, injuries and fatalities.
Two years ago, Georgia Southern started the “txt l8r” (Text Later) campaign. It encourages students to sign a pledge that they understand the potential deadly consequences of texting while driving and promise to text later when they are not driving. “We want our young people to realize that no call or message is worth putting lives at risk,” said Keel. “Keep your hands on the wheel, your eyes on the road and your mind on driving.”
President Keel was joined by GOHS Director Harris Blackwood and University Police Sgt. Tracy Atkinson.
