Herty Launches CRADA with the Nonwovens Institute to Develop Specialty Fibers

The Georgia Southern University Herty Advanced Materials Development Center (Herty) and the Nonwovens Institute at North Carolina State University (NWI) announced today the launch of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement to the accelerate the development of novel specialty fibers including islands-in-the-sea and other advanced bi-component fibers.


University’s Student Sustainability Fee Funds $198K in Sustainability Projects

The Sustainability Fee committee received 25 proposals requesting $725,836 and funded 11 of these proposals for $198,997. Fifteen academic departments in six colleges, as well as the Garden of the Coastal Plain, Campus Recreation and Intramurals, and the Division of Facilities Services submitted proposals.


Georgia Southern University ROTC Cadet Ranks Fourth in Nation

Of the 5,617 Cadets expected to graduate and commission between Fall 2014 and Summer 2015, Georgia Southern University Cadet Matthew Horne ranks fourth nationally. Horne is an International Studies major from Stedman, North Carolina and currently holds a 3.94 GPA.


Georgia Southern University Grants More Than 1700 Degrees During Fall Commencement

Georgia Southern University today held its 23rd annual Fall Commencement at Hanner Fieldhouse, 590 Herty Drive. University President Brooks A. Keel, Ph.D. conferred more than 1,700 graduate and undergraduate degrees during three separate ceremonies to accommodate the graduating class.

“This event was intended to help prospective students decide if Georgia Southern is the right fit for them,” said Amy Smith, director for the Office of Admissions. “Prospective students were able to interact with current students, faculty, and staff throughout the weekend and ask many questions. Additionally, some students were offered valuable scholarship dollars to help offset the cost of attendance.​ Scholarships can range from one-time $500 awards to four-year renewable full tuition awards.”

Don McLemore, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Chemistry and director of the Office of Industry Relations and Economic Development, has been appointed acting vice president for the Division of Research & Economic Development.
