Georgia Southern University President Invited to Testify on Higher Education in Washington D.C.
Georgia Southern University President Brooks A. Keel, Ph.D., has been invited by Congressman and Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce John Kline (R-Minn), to speak before the committee at a hearing on Wednesday, April 2 at 10 a.m. During the hearing titled, “Keeping College Within Reach: Meeting the Needs of Contemporary Students,” Keel will talk about the importance of preparing the 21st century workforce and the need for a “Workforce-Grant University.”
“It is an honor to be invited to testify before Chairman Kline and members of the Committee on Education and the Workforce regarding the role that universities like Georgia Southern University play in economic development and producing an educated workforce for the 21st century,” said Keel.
“Georgia Southern University has a great story to share. By providing a competitive education, applied research opportunities and industry partnerships, we continue to prepare students and graduates with work-ready skills in ways that benefit the state of Georgia and our nation.”
Over the past year, the committee has held the “Keeping College Within Reach” series of hearings as Congress reauthorizes the Higher Education Act. Wednesday’s hearing will provide members an opportunity to examine policy and programs to support continued innovation in postsecondary education.
Other witnesses asked to testify on the panel include Kevin Gilligan, the chairman and CEO of Capella Education Company in Minneapolis; Dr. George A. Pruitt, the president of Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J.; David K. Moldoff, the CEO and founder of AcademyOne in West Chester, Pa.; Stan Jones, president of Complete College America in Indianapolis; and Dr. Joann A. Boughman, Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the University System of Maryland.
The full committee hearing will take place in room 2175 at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.
