Graduate art students swap artwork in international exchange

In an effort to encourage dialogue among emerging artists from Georgia Southern University and Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland, graduate students from both universities are participating in an art swap this year.

Ducks Unlimited (DU) announced in November the hiring of Georgia Southern alumnus Nick Wiley (‘83) as its new chief conservation officer, effective January 2018.

Jose Sanchez, a graduate student in the Georgia Southern Department of Biology, has been awarded a highly competitive National Science Foundation (NSF) fellowship to conduct ecological research in South America.


University System of Georgia announces Board of Regents finalizes consolidations

Today, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) granted final approval for the creation of two new institutions through consolidation. Georgia Southern University and Armstrong State University will be consolidated as the new Georgia Southern University. Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Bainbridge State College will be consolidated as the new Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). The board approved resolutions making both consolidations effective Jan. 1, 2018.


Approximately 1,600 degrees conferred during Georgia Southern’s annual Fall Commencement

Rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of nearly 1,600 graduates at Georgia Southern University as graduate and undergraduate students were recognized during the Fall 2017 Commencement ceremony today. Georgia Southern alumnus and 2017 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Adrian Peterson (‘01) spoke to graduates in the 2 p.m. ceremony.

Georgia Southern University has been recognized by Military Times in the Military Times Best: Colleges 2018 for its commitment to providing quality educational opportunities to America’s veterans and military-connected students. Georgia Southern supports nearly 500 veteran and military-connected students currently enrolled at the University.
