Military veteran graduates, lands dream job with global company

Georgia Southern University health informatics student Deyoun Johnson served in the Army for almost 15 years, however, an injury in Afghanistan forced him to step down from a military career sooner than expected. On Saturday, he’ll earn a bachelor’s degree in health informatics and in January, begin work with the world’s second largest health information technology company, serving clients like the NBA and Johns Hopkins Medicine.


Armstrong Campus undergraduate research student, recruited by pharmaceutical giant, graduates

On Saturday, Armstrong Campus student Ariana Vargas will earn an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Georgia Southern and begin her career as a senior scientist for pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in January.


Former Sudanese “Lost Boy” graduates from Georgia Southern with Doctor of Public Health

In 1987, at the age of nine, Georgia Southern graduate Abraham Deng Ater was one of an estimated group of 20,000 South Sudanese boys who trekked more than a thousand miles by foot to Ethiopia and Kenya to escape civil war. Today, he walked across the stage at Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro to earn a Doctor of Public Health in Public Health Leadership from the University’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health and honor his late father.


Georgia Southern’s annual economic impact measured at more than $1 billion

A new report shows Georgia Southern University has an annual economic impact of just more than $1 billion on the region it serves. The report says Georgia Southern is a significant part of the University System of Georgia’s (USG) $16.8 billion economic impact on the state of Georgia.

The report found these economic impacts demonstrate that continued emphasis on colleges and universities as a pillar of the state’s economy translates into jobs, higher incomes and greater production of goods and services.


Georgia Southern to host 18th annual National Cross-Cultural Counseling and Education Conference for Research, Action and Change

Yamonte Cooper, Ed.D., a licensed professional clinical counselor, will headline the 18th annual National Cross-Cultural Counseling and Education Conference for Research, Action and Change, which is hosted by the Georgia Southern University College of Education. The conference will be at the Georgia Tech Savannah Campus Feb. 8 through 9.

A round of mock interviews with local high schoolers helped Georgia Southern University accounting students from the Parker College of Business put into practice concepts they learned in their forensic interview and interrogations class.
