Georgia Southern faculty continue excellence in 2016

Georgia Southern faculty excel in leadership, research and service, and many of these exceptional leaders have been recognized by Georgia Southern University and other organizations this year.

Susan Sanders, Ph.D., Appointed to Nursing Practice Committee

Susan Sanders, Ph.D., assistant professor with the School of Nursing at Georgia Southern University, has been appointed by the Georgia Board of Nursing to serve on the Nursing Practice Committee.

Sanders, who was selected because of her education, experience and geographical location, will help develop and advance nursing education standards throughout the state of Georgia.

She was appointed to a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2017.

 

Mark Edwards, Ph.D., Selected to Participate in NSF Ideas Lab

Mark Edwards, Ph.D., Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Physics, has been selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to participate in the NSF Ideas Lab “Measuring Big G.”

Edwards will propose a measurement of “Big G,” Newton’s universal gravitational constant, which would be conducted on the International Space Station.

The Ideas Lab will be held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology from July 18 to 22.

 

 

Matthew Hashiguchi, M.F.A., Awarded CAAM Documentary Fund Awards for Documentary

Department of Communications Arts Assistant Professor Matthew Hashiguchi, M.F.A., was awarded one of three Spring 2016 Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) Documentary Fund Awards for his recent film “Good Luck Soup.”

Hashiguchi’s film documents his family’s experiences of being Japanese in America before, during and after World War II. It explores several generations assimilating into a new culture while preserving their own.

For 36 years, CAAM has curated, created and supported extraordinary documentaries and independent filmmakers through stories intended for public broadcast and public media. They have awarded nearly $5 million to over 300 projects by and about Asian Americans.
