Georgia Southern University to Host Three Spring Family Weekends in 2012

eagleheadGeorgia Southern University will be hosting three Spring Family Weekends in 2012. The University’s Office of Orientation and Parent Programs will host events on Feb. 18 and March 31 in Statesboro and a family weekend in Atlanta on April 14.

On Feb. 18, the weekend starts with a family Career Workshop conducted by the University’s Office of Career Services.  The unique workshop, which will include a full breakfast, is designed to educate families on the services provided to students, how to obtain relevant job experiences, selecting a major and more.  Tickets for the Career Workshop for members of Georgia Southern’s Parent and Family Association (and their student) cost $10 per person.  For non-members, the workshop will cost $15.   Later that day, families are invited to attend both the Lady Eagles basketball game vs. Elon University and the men’s basketball game vs. University of North Carolina-Greensboro in historic Hanner Fieldhouse.  Family Weekend attendees are eligible to purchase a two-game ticket for only $5 per person.  Georgia Southern students receive free admission with a valid student ID.  The registration deadline is Feb. 10.

On March 31, families are invited to attend an Eagle baseball game vs. College of Charleston in J.I. Clements Stadium on the Georgia Southern campus.  The packages include a game ticket and concession pass and cost $10 for parents and guests and $5 for students. The registration deadline is March 23.

A third Spring Family Weekend will be held on April 14 in Atlanta. Families are invited to attend the Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers game and enjoy a pre-game tailgate experience.  The registration deadline is March 30.

“We are very excited to host three Spring Family Weekends and welcome parents back to campus to visit their student,” said Erin Campbell, assistant director of admissions, orientation, and parent programs.  “We are also looking forward to hosting parents and students in Atlanta for an Atlanta Braves game.  Each year, there is a lot of excitement and interest and we are expecting a large crowd.”

Campbell is encouraging parents to reserve their spot and to purchase their tickets early to ensure that there is enough space to accommodate the group.  “Our family weekends continue to grow each year and we are expecting to welcome a record number of parents back to campus this year.”
