Georgia Southern University Professor Bringing Together Leading Biopharmaceutical Researchers

Some of the world’s leading researchers whose work helps to create new, life-saving drugs will gather at the 18^th Annual Biopharmaceutical Applied Statistics Symposium (BASS XVIII) in Savannah, Ga., next week. BASS was founded by Georgia Southern University Professor Karl E. Peace, Ph.D., as a way to support graduate work in biostatistics.

BASS XVIII will be held at the Mulberry Inn in Savannah from November 7-11, bringing together leading biostatistics researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities involved with creating new, life-saving pharmaceuticals. The symposium will include presentations from biopharmaceutical researchers from the Food and Drug Administration, leading drug companies, and university researchers including those from Georgia Southern’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH).

The keynote speaker is Harvard University Professor of Statistical Science Dr. Marvin Zelen, whose discovery that a Massachusetts manufacturing plant was linked to health problems in the area was portrayed in the book and movie A Civil Action.

“We are pleased to be able to bring so many of the world’s key players together to discuss the ways we can impact the lives of millions through research that creates life-changing and life-saving drugs,” said Peace, who is a professor of biostatistics and a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar. Peace endowed the JPHCOPH in honor of his late wife.
