Georgia Southern University Human Resources Leader Recognized with Distinguished Service Award

Georgia Southern University’s Associate Vice President for Human Resources, Paul Michaud, has been named the winner of the Southern Region College and University Professional Association for Human Resources’ (CUPA-HR) Distinguished Service Award for 2013.  The award is designed to recognize a member of the CUPA-HR Southern Region who most exemplifies distinguished service to the human resources profession and to the association.

Michaud, joined Georgia Southern in 2008 and is currently in his 36^th year working in the Human Resources field at major universities including Clemson University, the University of Cincinnati, Florida International, the University of Idaho, Iowa State University and others.

“Paul has done a tremendous job of leading the Human Resources function at Georgia Southern University,” said Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel, Ph.D.  “I could not think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.  His contributions are well known on campus and I am excited that his peers have recognized him with this prestigious honor.”

To be nominated for the award, an individual must have been a member of the Southern Region for at least five years and have provided distinguished service to the organization by serving on regional or national committees, the Southern Region Board, or as a national officer.  In addition, the nominee must have publications related to HR administration or have participated as a conference speaker or coordinator at the regional or national level.  Lastly, nominees are required to have demonstrated organizational ability by planning or assisting in the planning of regional or national CUPA-HR conferences and must have a continuous record of attending association events.  Michaud has been involved with the CUPA-HR at the local, regional and national levels.

Michaud will receive the award at the Southern Region Conference in Charlotte, NC on Monday, April 29, 2013.

Having graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor of science degree in Economics and a MBA in Personnel Management, he also received a master of science degree in Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University, and has completed his coursework and comprehensives for a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Clemson University.
