Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus seniors show their work in upcoming gallery show
Seniors in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art are wrapping up their collegiate art collections, and one student is using the opportunity to show love and appreciation to one of her heroes: her mom.

Bella Urzua, a studio art major, painted a collection of childhood photographs from special moments with her mother as part of the senior art exhibition, “Nexus,” which is on display at the Fine Arts Gallery on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah.
“I was looking at photo albums, and I saw a photo of me and her and said, ‘Oh, that’s too cute!’” she exclaimed.
The exhibition is a unique collaboration created by seven students that brings together a variety of styles and mediums to present a collection of work that explores human connection. Under a shared theme, the work of the Eagle art seniors utilizes 2D, 3D and 4D art forms to explore and communicate unique individual experiences that lie at the nexus of their artistic pursuits. As viewers explore the space, this exhibition will inspire and invoke consideration of the connections that lie between the artists’ work and their community.
“I want the audience to feel like you’re being embraced,” Urzua said. “I’ve noticed it’s rare for a mother-daughter relationship, and I’m so incredibly lucky and happy to have that in my life.”
Urzua said her mom is excited to be part of the exhibit, but it’s created some playful tension among the other students.
“My friend told me that her mom’s jealous, because she wishes that her daughter would make an exhibit about her,” she quipped. “I thought that was cute.”
A reception will be held on April 25 from 5 to 7 p.m., and the exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May 16. Admission is free and open to the public.
