Georgia Southern University to Hold Ribbon Cutting for Renovated and Expanded Foy Building

Georgia Southern University will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Foy Building this Friday, April 24, at 2 p.m. The $7,853,000 renovation and extension of the Foy Fine Arts Building, now named the Foy Building, has added 3,599 square feet. The reinvented Foy Building is now the home of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) advisement center, dean’s suite and conference room, and the Music Department.

Some of the new facilities include a music library, the dean’s suite, choral and opera rehearsal rooms, several faculty offices and a recording studio. The extension and renovation of the Carol A. Carter Recital Hall has added a new lobby and entrance, new elevator, new seats, state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment, new backstage green room and top-of-the-line acoustic panels. The redesign of the hall, which now seats 287, allows the facility to host various types of musical performances.

‘This is an exciting time for music at Georgia Southern from the new conducting emphasis in the Masters Degree program to state-of-the-art dedicated spaces for recording and music technology,” said Richard Mercier, chair of the music department. ‘We would like to invite our alumni and friends to visit us for a first-hand look at how far the department has come and hear about our plans for the future.”

The ribbon cutting will take place on the pedestrium side of Foy. Guided tours and refreshments will be offered immediately after the ribbon cutting.
