International Festival brings the World to Bulloch County
Statesboro and Bulloch County will adopt a world view Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the region’s 4th Annual International Festival. Held at Mill Creek Regional Park in Statesboro, the festival includes a Global Village featuring educational country booths created by area middle and high school students, an international bazaar, international sports and games, and international culinary delights. A World Stage will feature entertainment with an international flavor.
‘The festival provides a diverse environment that fosters global awareness in our community youth,” said festival coordinator Angie Threatte, who represents Georgia Southern University’s Center for International Studies. ‘They can learn by engaging in a variety of international activities. We invite people of all nationalities and heritages throughout southeast Georgia to come and enjoy the day.”
The International Festival is a collaborative effort among Georgia Southern University, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce, the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Statesboro, the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners, and Bulloch County Schools, Emanuel County Schools, Long County Schools, and Screven County Schools.
Students from middle and high schools in Bulloch, Emanuel, Long and Screven counties will join with Global Ambassador students from Georgia Southern to create 15 country booths for this year’s Global Village, which will feature history, information, and artifacts from the Bahamas, Burkina Faso, China, Cote d’Ivoire, Finland, France, Germany, Honduras, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Uzbekistan.
World Stage performances will begin at 10 a.m. with a performance by Kool Vibes Reggae Band from Florida. At 10:30 Nuevo Guadalajara Mariachi Band from South Carolina, at 11 a.m.?Thai Dance Group from Savannah (Val Prompalin & Nouy Garwood), at 11:30 Cairo on the Coast, professional belly dancers from Savannah, will demonstrate the art of belly dancing.
Welcoming remarks will be made at noon. Jean-Paul & Dominique Carton will perform at 12:30 p.m. Kool Vibes Reggae Band will return at 1 p.m. The Georgia Southern University Tae Kwon Do Club will perform at 1:30 p.m., Cairo on the Coast will perform again at 2 p.m., at 2:30 p.m. Nuevo Guadalajara Mariachi Band will return to the stage, and the final performance will be at 3:30 p.m. with an Indian Bhangra Dance performed by the South Asian Student Association.
