University observes Holocaust Remembrance

Georgia Southern University will observe Holocaust Remembrance Monday, April 16, through Wednesday, April 18. The annual event, also known as Yom Hashoah, is an international day of remembering those who perished during the Holocaust.

Kevin Spicer, a specialist on relations between Christians and Jews during the Holocaust, will speak Monday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the College of Education Lecture Hall. He will speak on the significance and the history of the Holocaust.

On Tuesday, April 17, a Genocide Awareness Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. in Kennedy Hall’s Multipurpose Room. All are invited to a discussion dinner concerning the updates on the genocide situation in Darfur, Sudan. The dinner is free, but participants must RSVP by Friday, April 13, at (912) 681-5409.

The final book club discussion of the semester will be held Wednesday, April 18, at noon in Russell Union Room 2044. John Steinberg, associate professor of history, will facilitate discussion of the book ‘The Reader” by Bernhard Schlink. The book tells of a love affair between a young man and older woman during World War II in Nazi Germany. It follows their lives to a meeting several years later at a war crimes trial.
