Georgia Southern Begins Auction for Nike Camouflage Jerseys

The dark blue custom digital camouflage Nike jerseys worn by the Georgia Southern University football team in its victory on Military Appreciation Day are now up for bids in an online auction. Thirty of the camouflage jerseys will be available in the initial auction with a starting bid of $200 for each jersey.  Fans may submit bids for the jerseys athttp://www.charityauctionstoday.com/store/GSUAthleticFoundation.

The auction for the first 30 jerseys ends on Sunday, November 25. Subsequent auctions of jerseys will be staggered throughout November to mid-December to ensure delivery for the holidays. Proceeds of the auctions will benefit Georgia Southern’s Military Resource Center and the University’s ROTC Eagle Battalion.

The Eagles, wearing something other than their traditional blue or white jerseys for the first time in history, defeated Wofford 17-9 on Military Appreciation Day at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. The uniforms feature a digital camo pattern with gray numerals outlined in red and yellow with an American flag patch on the right shoulder, Georgia Southern logo patch on the left shoulder, and Georgia National Guard patch on the left side below the embroidered Nike emblem. The phrase “Always Ready, Always There” is sublimated into the jersey fabric and appears on the back of each jersey. Constructed of a synthetic compression fabric, each uniform will only be available in its listed size.

“Wearing the jerseys for Military Appreciation Day honored the men and women who served and who are serving in our Armed Forces,” said Eagle Head Football Coach Jeff Monken. “Now, through the auctions of these jerseys, proceeds will benefit Georgia Southern’s Military Resource Center and the University’s ROTC Eagle Battalion unit. We are proud to make this contribution to the Military Resource Center as it provides programs and assistance for military personnel and their families and help the Eagle Battalion continue its mission of training the finest officers in the United States military.”

Per NCAA bylaws, the nameplates that would identify a student-athlete will be removed prior to shipping to a winning bidder. Payments for auctions must be made within three days of winning a jersey auction or the jersey will be put back up for bid. VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover will be accepted for payment with a $15 handling and mailing fee added to the final auction price. Express shipping must be arranged separately and additional payment is required.

Georgia Southern’s Military Appreciation Day on October 13 was sponsored in part by the Georgia National Guard, a partnership facilitated by Colonel George Frederick, Georgia Southern ROTC Eagle Battalion Commander. Colonel Frederick and Colonel Kenneth Hutnick II, Recruiting and Retention Commander of the Georgia National Guard, worked together as the jersey concept moved from idea to reality. The custom jerseys were manufactured in Waterloo, Iowa, this summer after Nike completed the design in late spring.
