Eagles on the Rise

Georgia Southern Women’s Golf Team Builds on Unprecedented Success

The Georgia Southern Women’s Golf team has had an outstanding season, marked by a stellar team performances at the Sun Belt Championship and Louise Reau’s historic appearance at the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional — two more milestones upon which the Eagles will continue to build a championship season.

The Eagles finished second at the Sun Belt Championship held in April at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi. The team recorded a total score of 869 (+5), narrowly trailing the champions, Texas State. Senior Sarah Noonan and sophomore Louise Reau led the team with standout performances. Noonan carded rounds of 72, 73, and 71, while Reau posted scores of 74, 72, and 70.

“Finishing second in such a competitive field is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Head Coach Elaine McGinnis. “Our ladies showed incredible heart and determination.”

Sophomore Louise Reau continued her post-season run, earning a bid to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship following her performance in Madison. This accomplishment made her the first player in program history to advance to the NCAA Championship as an individual.

At the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional in Raleigh, North Carolina, in May, Reau finished tied for 10th place with a total score of 214 (-2) after rounds of 70, 73, and 71. Her top-10 finish marks another first for the Georgia Southern Women’s Golf program at an NCAA Regional.

“It’s an incredible feeling to earn a bid to the NCAA Championship and finish in the top 10 at the regional,” said Reau. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team and coaches.”

Reau was named the Sun Belt Golfer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and first-team all-conference, while Haley Yerxa earned first-team all-conference, and Regina Plascencia and Abby Newton were named to the second-team.

These and previous wins show an upward trajectory for Eagle Women’s Golf. Georgia Southern has finished in the top-four in seven of its eight Sun Belt Conference Championship appearances.

“This season has been a significant step forward for our program,” said McGinnis. “The experience gained and the achievements we’ve celebrated will undoubtedly inspire our team to strive for even greater success in the future.”
