For Nivine Richie, Ph.D., 2026 has been all about opening doors and making connections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She started as the new dean of Parker College of Business at Georgia Southern University in early January and hasn’t wasted any time getting into the hallways to meet the next generation of Parker scholars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Dean [Allen] Amason left a great team behind,” she explained. “Trusted advisors and incredible faculty that have been extremely helpful. It’s helped me focus on finding opportunities to connect with our students.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late nights at her office led to chance meetings and conversations with business students who studied long after classes let out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They were so welcoming and so excited to meet the new dean,” Richie said. “I thought ‘wow, what a delightful group.'” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interactions like these have made her transition from the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) after 18 years much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The team at UNCW and I were very fortunate,” she explained. “We grew our MBA program from 150 students to more than 700. Our graduate programs went from approximately 400 students to over 1,000.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her career in education began after a long stint as a banker working with mortgage-backed securities during the 1990s, when she became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That experience opened doors for me,” Richie said. “It introduced me to a great mentor who was also going through the CFA program. When she told me what it meant to be a professor and to teach, I thought, ‘well, that sounds pretty good.'”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After several years working for a regional dealer bank in both Pennsylvania and South Florida, Richie found herself in front of the blackboard, teaching an evening class on investments at Florida Atlantic University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A move to Pennsylvania led to a faculty position at Susquehanna University, a private liberal arts university. When an opportunity at UNCW came along, she didn’t hesitate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I started as a finance professor before becoming department chair, and then associate dean for graduate, international and executive programs in the business school,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richie spent almost two decades in Wilmington before joining Georgia Southern University as the next dean of the Parker College of Business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I saw the opportunity to make a lasting difference here,” she said. “And for me, that was exciting.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her first semester as dean has been focused on learning the ropes: meeting the faculty, developing strategic messaging and getting used to the daily duties that come with leading, all while becoming the College’s greatest advocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have a strong and competitive curriculum,” she said. “And of course, our faculty are excellent. Our location is filled with opportunities in aerospace, shipping and automotive industries. They all need employees with business skills. Specifically, the kinds of skills that can be found at the Parker College of Business.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
