These short-term trips led by University faculty enrich students\u2019 personal growth, help them develop leadership and service skills and leave them with an appreciation for different cultures.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3930\" alt=\"quote\" src=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote-315x360.jpg\" width=\"315\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote-315x360.jpg 315w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote-87x100.jpg 87w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWhile visiting Costa Rica, students worked in clinics to provide health care to the underserved population and immersed themselves in the culture of the country by living with host families during their two-week stay. \u201cThis trip opens their eyes to other health care systems, especially working with different populations. The students can take what they have learned in Costa Rica and apply it to their own practice,\u201d said Jeffrey Palis, associate director of the Center for International Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Hands-on service and leadership opportunities in Botswana provided valuable experiences for participants. \u201cThis trip gave students the opportunity to learn about the importance of service work from leaders of African organizations,\u201d said Palis about Georgia Southern\u2019s second trip to the African nation. Students gained an in-depth understanding of the emerging and complex social, political and cultural issues in Botswana, while also developing their leadership skills.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3931\" alt=\"quote2\" src=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote2.jpg\" width=\"314\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote2.jpg 314w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/quote2-100x42.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDuring the University\u2019s first Study Abroad trip to Berlin, Germany and Krakow, Poland, students examined Polish and Jewish history with scholars and met leaders of Berlin\u2019s Jewish community. Their studies also explored the history of the Holocaust with tours of concentration camps and a meaningful meeting with a Holocaust survivor. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gsustudyabroad.blogspot.com\" target=\"_blank\">Gsustudyabroad.blogspot.com.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students arrived in the \u201cCity of Victory\u201d \u2013 also known as Segovia, Spain \u2013 for six weeks of concentrated Spanish classes taught by native speakers.
