{"id":39,"date":"2012-03-12T13:47:23","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T13:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/sites\/gsm_spr12\/?p=39"},"modified":"2014-06-02T14:58:48","modified_gmt":"2014-06-02T18:58:48","slug":"still-laying-out-the-hits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/2012\/03\/12\/still-laying-out-the-hits\/","title":{"rendered":"Still Laying Out the Hits"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Eric Lee Beddingfield<\/h3>\n<p>When former linebacker Eric Lee Beddingfield (\u201902) couldn\u2019t deliver hits on the field anymore, he started delivering them onstage.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/layingHitsBeddingfield.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1522\" alt=\"layingHitsBeddingfield\" src=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/layingHitsBeddingfield.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/layingHitsBeddingfield.jpg 400w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/layingHitsBeddingfield-100x58.jpg 100w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/layingHitsBeddingfield-315x183.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAfter redshirting in the fall of his freshman year at Georgia Southern, the former Eagle suffered a career-ending neck injury in practice the following spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never even got my time in the spotlight,\u201d he said in a 2009 interview. \u201cI was walking around campus, 19 years old, thinking, &#8216;Woe is me. What do I do now?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Growing up, music was a staple in the Beddingfield home. He picked his guitar back up and played it in his dorm to take his mind off of his injury. It filled the void, he said, and then some.<\/p>\n<p>Forming the band County Line, a regional following soon developed as he fronted the group and wrote songs. The band recorded a 12-song CD and opened for a number of national acts at shows around the Southeast.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating with a degree in business management he moved to Nashville to pursue a solo career. Beddingfield teamed with producer Kent Wells and recorded an album that included a duet with Dolly Parton on the track \u201cTrain, Train,\u201d releasing three singles, all of which hit the Music Row Top 40 \u2013 \u201cKill the Mullet\u201d (#38), \u201cSmall Town America\u201d (#25) and \u201cNowhere USA\u201d (#22).<\/p>\n<p><em>New Music Weekly<\/em> named Beddingfield one of the Top 10 artists to watch, and \u201cNowhere USA\u201d reached No. 1 on the independent chart in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Beddingfield\u2019s most recent album \u201cThis Life Ain\u2019t For Everybody\u201d features 12 tracks, including \u201cThe Gospel According to Jones,\u201d with the legendary George Jones.
