{"id":4216,"date":"2011-03-18T12:55:44","date_gmt":"2011-03-18T16:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/?p=4216"},"modified":"2014-06-02T14:54:39","modified_gmt":"2014-06-02T18:54:39","slug":"national-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/2011\/03\/18\/national-network\/","title":{"rendered":"National Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cEagle Nation\u201d promises to assume a broader meaning as new Director of Alumni Relations Wendell Tompkins (&#8217;87) sets out to expand the organized Georgia Southern alumni network to a greater number of states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/m_tompkins.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/m_tompkins.jpg\" alt=\"m_tompkins\" width=\"270\" height=\"371\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/m_tompkins.jpg 270w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/m_tompkins-72x100.jpg 72w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs director of alumni relations, Frank Hook established the widely successful Eagle Club network 15 years ago,\u201d said Tompkins. \u201cWith Dr. Keel\u2019s support, it is my desire to expand this network and take Georgia Southern on the road to as many alumni as possible across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeorgia Southern\u2019s academic and alumni reach goes far beyond the borders of our own state,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have students from nearly every state and have alumni residing on both coasts and everywhere in between. If we are going to reach our goals as a University we need the support of our graduates wherever they might live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tompkins assumed his current role with the University in January and has served as director of annual giving with the Georgia Southern University Foundation since 2007. As director of annual giving he was responsible for directing and implementing the \u201cA Day for Southern\u201d and \u201cA Day for Southern On Campus\u201d campaigns, raising in excess of $1.3 million annually. Tompkins also provided leadership for the Phonathon coordinator and assistant director for Web-based fundraising in the development of annual gifts campaigns. He was responsible for aiding the University community in individual department and college campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Tompkins has also held positions as assistant director of alumni relations and associate director of Southern Boosters (now the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation).<\/p>\n<p>As assistant director of alumni relations, Tompkins was responsible for \u201cfriend-raising\u201d for the University in support of the Office of University Advancement and worked to develop strategies to increase alumni support. He coordinated the Eagle Club program and the annual Alumni Association Scholarship program, Alumni Travel Program and Alumni Association Awards Ceremony. He also initiated and implemented the Alumni Relations Online Community and Class Ring Program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy staff and I will work very hard to continue creating a sense of loyalty that will generate the level of pride and good will for the University.
